Magic Canyon

Magic Canyon Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"A route into the remote upper canyon of the Wild and Scenic Chetco River’s emerald waters. A challenging and adventurous trip to a wilderness gem. There is a vault toilet and parking for 15 cars at the trailhead.

This long and strenuous route that drops almost 3,000 feet to the upper gorge of the Chetco River—known as Magic Canyon—is one of Southern Oregon’s great adventures. It’s a place where locals travel to find solitude, swim, and fish among emerald green pools and silver-orange walls. Hearty kayakers sometimes carry boats down this route to begin one of the West Coast’s wildest river trips. The hike is difficult, traversing a virtual desert of serpentinite rock and rare flowers. It should not be undertaken lightly."
