Little Falls Loop

Little Falls Loop Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"A short but scenic loop down to a cute little waterfall and beach on the Illinois River. The trailhead area contains parking for 20 cars, a vault toilet, and a small campground. There is no water. The trail is fairly hot in midsummer.

There’s something about the Illinois River area that is inherently unique. The area even seems to have its own color scheme (a kind of sparse yellowish-green foliage with red-brown tree trunks, jumbled gray rocks, brilliant emerald green water in the river, and lots of sunlight). Throw in orange mountains and several strange plant species adapted to serpentine soil and things start to get amazing pretty fast. The Little Falls Trail offers an excellent opportunity to observe these features close-up."
