This run on the Sandy River provides a warm-up for boating the class 4 Sandy Gorge, which begins just below the Marmot Diversion Dam. The first 3 miles of this section begin with a series of class 2 rapids. After another mile and immediately after a long series of waves and holes is Alder Creek Rapid, class 4. Look for an A-frame house and several other houses overlooking the rapids on the left bank. Below Alder Creek, the rapids become progressively easier until the water becomes completely flat at the impoundment behind the Marmot Diversion Dam. The portage is on the right, along the public road. Follow it to the left across the aqueduct and down to the river. Continue boating 6.5 miles on the next run.
