This combination campground and day-use area stretches for 1.7 miles along the Columbia River between the boat launch and John Day Dam. A steep slope plunges from the camp to the rocky riverbank. Overnight parking is allowed on the large gravel- or asphaltsurfaced lots, while tent camping is allowed on the grass. Shade trees are a few steps away, and wind is common in the gorge. Shad and sturgeon fishing, boating, and visiting John Day Dam and its fish-viewing windows keep campers on the go.
