Owyhee River: Three Forks to Rome Professional Review and Guide
"The weather in the bottom of the canyon can be oppressively hot in April and May, when this stretch is normally high enough to run. However, one should also be prepared for cool weather, cold water, and even snow flurries. The canyon has one of the densest rattlesnake populations in Oregon, so people may feel more at ease sleeping in tents.
Camping areas are not nearly as plentiful here as on the Owyhee River: Rome to Leslie Gulch run or on most other eastern Oregon rivers. This river is becoming more and more popular. At flows much over 3000 cfs, the river becomes very fast, but some of the rapids wash out. (For comparison, the Middle Fork of the Salmon, at the same flow, is considered easier than the Owyhee). Character: inaccessible gorge; desert."
