High-desert trail that skirts the northwest edge of Gray Butte and then takes you into the Crooked River Canyon at Smith Rock State Park. Bridge crossings. Mountain views. If you love deserts and solitude, this run is for you. This singletrack route skirts the northwest edge of 5,108-foot Gray Butte, located in the high-desert landscape of Crooked River National Grassland and ending at Smith Rock State Park. The trail weaves its way through a sage-and juniper-scented landscape around the base of Gray Butte. It then clings to the edge of two prominent ridges, offering awesome views of the Three Sisters volcanoes, Broken Top, Black Butte, and Mount Jefferson. After 6.2 miles you’ll enter the volcanic landscape of Smith Rock State Park. This 641-acre park features a beautiful canyon carved by the Crooked River.

trail is in good shape and all. I was wanting to write this review to express the fun elevation gains and wonderful views. This run is to be taken a little more seriously than your average moderate mileage run. Have fun!!
