Madras - Prineville Loop Professional Review and Guide
"A seventy-mile loop through rolling grass, sagebrush and juniper-covered hills, and the Crooked River Gorge. From Madras, the route proceeds southeast across sagebrush and rolling hills through the Crooked River Grasslands to Prineville and the rugged Crooked River Canyon. Turning west it extends through the sheer basalt cliffs of the rugged Crooked River Gorge to Terrebonne. As the route returns north on U.S. Highway 97, it is framed by the snow-capped peaks of the Cascades to the west and the high desert’s low hills and prairie near the roadside.
Special attractions: Crooked River National Grasslands, Crooked River Gorge, Smith Rock State Park, Ogden Scenic Wayside, three reservoir lakes, rock climbing, rock hounding, and fishing. This eTrail is a complete description of a scenic drive with a route map and information on the best travel seasons, interesting sites, recreation opportunities, camping locations, and much more."
