Washington Park Professional Review and Guide

"If you’re visiting Portland for the first time, go to Washington Park. If you’ve lived here all your life . . . go to Washington Park. It’s one of Portland’s oldest and most beautiful places, with panoramic views and days’ worth of cultural sites to explore.

The only problem with bicycling in the park is gravity: there’s a lot to overcome here. You can address this challenge in two ways: combine a workout with the sightseeing, or use MAX to facilitate a one-way trip downhill. I describe the entire loop here, so take your choice. The route begins at Pioneer Courthouse Square and heads up to the Northwest neighborhood. Here you leave the street grid behind and enter the Hillside neighborhood, aka Kings Heights. Every street curves and every home positively luxuriates on its lot, enjoying the fine views and immaculate landscaping."
