The Salmonberry is one of the most overlooked rivers in the Portland area, perhaps for good reason. The shuttle for this run deserves a Class V rating. Since it's a long drive, you may wish to recruit someone to shuttle vehicles from the put-in to the take-out, where a day of fishing or hiking awaits the shuttle driver. Some paddlers camp near the put-in the night before to shorten the length of the drive the following day. Others have hired drivers in or around the town of Timber to take their vehicles to the take-out. The Lower Columbia Canoe Club was able to locate out-of-work loggers at the Timber Tavern to do shuttle for them in 1993.
