Powell Butte

Powell Butte Professional Review and Guide

"Powell Butte is just one in a series of extinct volcanic mounds that form the Boring/East Buttes Lava Domes. This range contains some of the largest contiguous wildlife habitats in the area. The 600-acre Powell Butte Nature Park provides over 9 miles of trails for hikers, mountain bikers, and horseback riders.

There is also a 0.5-mile barrier- free trail leading to the top of the butte, where views of Mount St. Helens and Mount Hood dominate the horizon. Grassland meadows, a scrub shrub transition area, and a mid–seral stage forest all provide home to a wide array of wildlife. This diverse habitat also affords hikers the opportunity to catch a glimpse of one of the many birds, mammals, and reptiles that make the butte home."
