This out-and-back route passes through the expanse of Oaks Bottom Wildlife Refuge in Southeast Portland. On this run you’ll need to adjust your pace so you can get an eyeful of wildlife that abounds in this riparian ecosystem. Great blue herons, Canadian geese, and mallard ducks fly the friendly skies over this Willamette River marsh; while the ground crew of beaver, muskrat, and nutria navigate the waterways. Black cottonwood, dogwood, and elderberry provide shade while you run, and huge thickets of blackberries provide a tasty treat starting in mid-to-late August.
