Signed forest path that winds through a Douglas fir and big-leaf maple forest in Marquam Nature Park. The route then hooks up with a paved pedestrian path that parallels Terwilliger Boulevard. From this path you have views of downtown Portland, the Willamette River, and Mount Hood. Bridge crossings. Wood stairs. Marquam Nature Park is a hidden oasis in Portland’s southwest hills. This loop trail takes you on a trek through the arboreal haven of big-leaf maple and Douglas fir trees and past a lush forest mix of ferns, vine maple, Oregon grape, and elderberry. You’ll charge through this urban greenery, bounding up and down hills and over bubbling creeks, until you exit from the forest wilds to the more civilized running world, where you’ll head downhill on the paved Terwilliger jogging path that will take you back to your starting point. Water is available at the trailhead.

A great trail for being so close to the city. The switchbacks should get your calves burning. To make the run 3.6 miles longer, you can take a trail up to council crest for sweeping views of Portland.
