Lolo Pass

Lolo Pass Professional Review and Guide

"A lot of people know about Lolo Pass (Forest Road 18), which runs over the west shoulder of Mount Hood and down into Hood River on the Columbia Gorge—but because it has a substantial unpaved section, it’s unfriendly as a point-to-point for road bikes. And, frankly, the climb up Lolo Pass Road is good but not great. But then there’s FR 1828 . . . and that makes all the di?erence.

Whereas the main Lolo Pass Road follows a major powerline up a clear-cut alley, FR 1828 dives deep into the forest, producing an entirely different—and much more soul-satisfying—experience. I wouldn't ride here if FR 1828 didn't exist. But it does, so enjoy it."
