Historic Hiking Trail

Historic Hiking Trail Professional Review and Guide

"Highlights: Great singletrack, University Falls, and lush forest. Tread: 7.3 miles singletrack; 0.7 mile doubletrack.

Hazards: This is a highly technical trail with several short, steep climbs and root-covered descents. Fording Devil’s Fork Creek in the spring or after a period of prolonged rain can be dangerous and is always cold. Be aware that this area is popular with motorized users."

Brutally difficult trail, with many, many sections we had to walk our bikes through - big rocks, roots, & steep grades. This ride is not for the beginning biker, and I recommend it only if you are in great shape.

This is a great ride. Caution, the directions in the book are innacurate. When you arrive at University falls there is an 'landing' area just prior to the falls. You will see a hitching post for horses, and it is a opening in the singletrack trail. As you enter this area the falls walking path is to the left, and the trail to continue riding this sweet singletrack is to the right. Bottom line, this is a great ride, not to be missed. Combine it with Gayle creek for a nice 14 miler.
