A fun ride, close to Portland but a bit of a pain to get to. Technically good for beginners/intermediates, though a few sections were surprisingly steep (don't get lulled into thinking that a ride around a lake is flat).

This is a very fun trail as long as the thorns aren't out yet. Sometimes the park workers will be on the trail cutting back the thorns too. Fun ride..technically easy for the most part.

I got soooo lost! And I almost went down 3 times on the trail... it was very bad footing...

And the WORST part! I think I was the first person on this trail in the past year. I cleared the spider webs. It was like a horror film. Huge webs with every step. I could feel the mesh of webs dangling in the breeze behind me.

I expect some webs. That's normal. I run trails a lot.

I was supposed to do 26 miles. I ended up doing 22 and almost cried in the middle because of getting lost so many times and so many spiders and webs all over me and, oh it was bad. Call me girlie, but I didn't expect to be wearing a thick layer of webs from head to toe by the end.

But, I do have to say... the blackberries were totally ripe! And, the paved outter loop is really a great place to bike!

The inconsiderate and environmentally destructive people that flock to this lake to drink, stuff their faces, and loaf around on its shores unfortunately ruin this truly beautiful place. The area is covered with litter from individuals to lazy to make it to the garbage cans. I hiked briefly up Scoggins Creek, but was so repulsed by the condition that people had left it in that I left almost immediately. It is so unfortunate that people have treated this area like their own personal latrine. In the short forty minutes that I could stomach this place I saw wide array of waterfowl, reptiles, amphibians, and a couple of hawks. Hagg Lake should be turned into a nature preserve akin to Sauvies Island to protect the lake's inherent beauty and wildlife.
