Eastbank Esplanade - Tom McCall Waterfront Park Loop Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Portland’s Eastbank Esplanade is an urban adventure that gives you a different perspective of Portland’s vibrant waterfront. This 1.7-mile-long promenade hugs the east bank of the Willamette River, which flows right through the heart of downtown. Located between the historic Hawthorne and Steel Bridges, this riverfront walking and biking path gives you an unobstructed view of Portland’s skyline and boasts unique art sculptures that celebrate Portland’s history.

The Esplanade also ties the east and west sides of the city’s waterfront district together with nice pathways that cross the Steel and Hawthorne Bridges. A walkway on the Steel Bridge allows you to cross the river to Tom McCall Waterfront Park, located on the west bank of the Willamette River, where you can tour the Japanese-American Historical Plaza and Saturday Market."

"This is a route everyone who lives in or visits Portland should ride, run, walk, or spin in a wheelchair. It provides a wonderful, easy excursion as well as an unusual angle on downtown Portland; instead of seeing the cityscape from above—via Washington Park in the West Hills, a 30th-floor restaurant, or Interstate 5 heading north over the Marquam Bridge—on the Esplanade you’re looking up, but with some splendid foreground for perspective."
