Port Orford Heads

Port Orford Heads Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The buildings at Port Orford Heads State Park were originally built for Port Orford Lifeboat Station, whose staff or "surfmen"-eventually numbering more than 100-kept watch over 40 miles of coastline from Cape Blanco to Cape Sebastian between 1934 and 1970.

The station was decommissioned after more sophisticated search-and-rescue methods made it obsolete. Walk the short trails, lined in spring with blooms of wild purple iris."
