Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"A small retirement and vacation community at the south end of scenic Three Capes Loop, Pacific City is scattered about a coastal plain that lies beneath Cape Kiwanda along a photogenic bit of beach extending south to Nestucca (ness-tuck-uh) Bay. Just offshore stands the larger of two Oregon coast formations called Haystack Rock; this one is 327 feet tall. This is an area popular with hang-glider and dune-buggy enthusiasts. The town’s main claim to fame, however, is the Pacific dory fleet. Commercial fishermen and sport anglers launch their craft from the beach into the surf, as fishermen have for more than seventy years.

Nevertheless, during the summer, dozens of four-wheel-drive boat-hauling rigs cross the soft sands to the firm beach each morning and are parked along the beach until the dories return. It’s quite a show to watch and photograph. It is possible to find a charter operator willing to take individuals out for the ride and the fishing. This eTrail includes information on lodging, campgrounds, RV parks, restaurants, entertainment, shopping, and outdoor activities near this coastal city."
