"The trailhead is about 30 miles east of Prineville. Tread: singletrack. Hazards: the Independent Mine extracted cinnabar, a red-colored ore containing mercury. Do not play on the mine tailings or venture off the trail near the mine. Watch for sudden changes in weather."
