Hills Creek is one of the more demanding creeks in the Eugene area. Slides, falls, boulder gardens, gorges: This run has them all. About 0.2 mile above the bridge are back-to-back 20-foot and 12-foot falls. Unfortunately, these have collected a fair amount of wood in recent years, so running these is not advisable. Put in at either the base of the 12-foot falls or at the road bridge. The first mile is a series of class 4 boulder gardens, ledges, and slides. The creek soon straightens and narrows, which is the signal to eddy out right and scout a long complex series of class 4 and class 5 drops. The class 5 is an unmistakable hard right turn through a jumble of boulders with extreme pinning/broaching potential. Portaging right and seal launching at the base of this drop is the best option.
