Hoffer Lakes Professional Review and Guide

"This short, popular hike leads from Anthony Lake to scenic Hoffer Lakes, which seem quite wild and very alpine. This hike is simply a short walk to a picturesque lake tucked in glacial
basin. The Sloan Ridge Fire burned the pine and fir forest upslope from here in 1996, while a 1962 fire, the Anthony Lakes Burn, affected ridges along the north fringe of the hike.

The Crawfish Lake Trail (Trail 1606) departs enthusiastically downhill, but it quickly tempers its plunge, moderating to a more gradual descent across open slopes with gaunt, charcoal-girdled snags. There has been little regrowth and forest recovery at this higher elevation, even after decades of time."
