This is really three hikes in one: a cool, shady amble along a creek; a steady climb to a beautiful lake with a view of Mount Hood; and a strenuous climb to an old lookout site, also with an impressive view of Mount Hood. Burnt Lake Trail #772 starts in an area where there's no lake and no evidence that anything has ever burned. It's all cool, moist, and shady as you wind your way up through a young forest, with a branch of Lost Creek off to your right. If that name sounds familiar, it's because there are enough things called "Lost" in Oregon (not to mention things called "Salmon," "Elk," and "Huckleberry") to fill a whole hiking book.
