The Pioneer Bridle Trail generally follows a section of the historic Barlow Road. In places the historic route is marked with signs, but in others one can only guess at its exact route. The fact is that there may have been several variations in the route as it descended the difficult Laurel Hill section. Laurel Hill was named for the rhododendrons that cover large parts of it. Western hemlocks, western red cedars, Douglas firs, and noble firs form a dense forest canopy as the Pioneer Bridle Trail leaves the Glacier View Sno-park and Trailhead. A reader board close to the trailhead maps out the winter ski trails. After checking the reader board, backtrack a few steps to a sign pointing out the Pioneer Bridle Trail and head west-northwest.
