New Year's Eve was a busy day on the Frog Lake trail. We had to contend with kids sledding, who could not steer out of the way (and with snowshoes, we couldn't get out of the way very fast). Although the trail is fairly short, by far our best experiences were when straying from the (heavily) beaten path. There was plenty of virgin now to be explored. Just make sure you don't stray onto private land that borders part of the trail. The lake surface itself can also be a nice area to explore, so long as the ice is frozen solid. After going out onto the ice, we saw patches of slush near the shore--perhaps not the wisest move. Because the area is so heavily trafficked, wildlife sitings were rare, mostly jays and a few other birds too far away to see. Consider bringing binoculars if you're into bird watching.
