Molalla River

Molalla River Professional Review and Guide

"This ride tours the Molalla River, a major tributary of the Willamette. In its lower reaches, the Molalla is lazy and meandering, lined with gravel bars and swimming holes. Upstream of the town of Molalla, it’s a completely different river. Rugged and wild, it flows through a dramatic basalt canyon, slackening in crystalline pools at narrow spots and surging over rock ledges in clouds of whitewater. It’s a paddler’s and angler’s dream—and a great place for biking.

Molalla Forest Road parallels the river deep into the mountains before turning to gravel near Table Rock Wilderness. While ambitious riders might want to go all the way to pavement’s end, you can experience the canyon’s grandeur on a shorter ride. It’s an out-and-back, so you choose how far to go."
