Twin Springs Recreation Site Professional Review and Guide
"This shadeless campground occupies a low, sagebrush-covered plateau above the Deschutes River. Basalt cliffs rise across the river. The railroad track that traverses the opposite shore represents the victor in a battle to see which railroad would serve the canyon. The abandoned grade on the campground side is used now by hikers and bicyclists; you can access the grade at Macks Canyon, at the north end of Deschutes River Access Road. Fishing, boating, and rafting are the river pursuits, but undercurrents make swimming dangerous. Fires and smoking are prohibited from June 1 to October 15."
