"Despite being located right off of busy i-84, the Wygant Trail is one of the quietest hikes in the gorge. Granted, the summit is forested and reaching it requires steep climbing over a rapidly decaying trail. But the lower sections of this trail are in good shape, leading to excellent viewpoints of the river and surrounding prominent peaks. And there are flowers aplenty too—and poison oak, so cover up or save this one for October." Read more

"A steep day hike up Wygant Point, with shorter scenic options along Perham Creek. The Wygant Trail is one of the lesser known gorge trails, but it has some spectacular views." Read more

You can hear the traffic most of the time. We went up Sunday the 4th of July weekend and we only saw two small groups of people. The trail was really over grown and many times we had to really search for it as we jumped over huge trees then scramble under others. Some points had overgrown bushes and washed out switchbacks! The climb was hard and long, straight up... and switchback after switchback! The intermitant views of the gorge were unbelievable...and I have to say worth the leg pain. It was an adventure, at times, to keep on the trail. If you're up to trail blazing up, up, up to a simple pile of rocks...go for it! AND don't forget to add a rock!

Did the Perham Loop...
1. You never leave the proximity of the hwy, so noise always is a factor.
2. lots and lots of ticks (May 2, 2008).
3. trail itself was OK. The loop aspect was not maintained too well.

It was a fun day, however. Anyday in the woods is better than working...
