Mann Lake Recreation Site Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Named for an early-day rancher, Mann Lake, the centerpiece of this Oregon outback stay, is a glassy, broad natural platter at the eastern foot of Steens Mountain. This is a do-it-yourself camping area on the open plain. Bringing a shade source is desirable, along with plenty of water and sunscreen. Rainbow and the Mann Lake cutthroat trout survive in this low-oxygen water. Fishing is best early in the year before the algae build. A wildlife viewing area encompasses the lake. Alvord Hot Springs is located some 18 miles farther south; on the east side of the road, look for rising steam and a small rustic tin structure for changing your clothes."
