Cheval Lake

Cheval Lake Professional Review and Guide

"Hike steeply downhill, from Granite Creek Trail, on a high, windswept plateau to Cheval Lake, tucked in a timbered glacial cirque. The route passes the remains of a tiny miners cabin as you descend. (Trail 1681) From the junction with the Granite Creek Trail, Cheval Lake Trail heads west.

It drops 230 feet in the first 0.25 mile, to a meadow. Cross two streams in the meadow. There is a pond on the left at the second stream crossing. After crossing the meadow the trail climbs to the top of a spur ridge (8,320 ft.). The trail goes southwest up the spur ridge for 0.3 mile to the top of the main ridge (8,590 feet)."
