Blue Lake Professional Review and Guide

"This trail connects Minam Lake and Blue Lake. (Trail 1673A) Blue Lake sits in a striking subalpine bowl at the head of the Minam River. The Minam once flowed from Minam Lake but a small earthen dam at its south end diverted its water into the Lostine drainage. This left the stream coming from Blue Lake as the source of the Minam River.

From the junction with the Upper Minam River Trail the Blue Lake Trail heads west and crosses the Minam River creekbed. The Minam River is very small here and will probably be completely dry. The water that used to flow down the Minam River from Minam Lake was diverted many years ago. It now flows north down the West Fork Lostine River into the Wallowa Valley."
