Klickitat River: Klickitat Salmon Hatchery to Leidl Campground Professional Review and Guide
"The first 5 miles below the fish hatchery consist of challenging technical rapids. At flows around 3000 cfs, the rapids wash out and the run involves missing a few big holes and riding big waves. The first class 3 rapids can be seen from the fish hatchery dam. Downstream 2 miles is Wonder Falls, a spring-fed falls on the right and an alternate put-in. Other rapids along the upper section can be scouted from the road. However, about 1 mile below Wonder Falls is a difficult rapids that cannot be seen from the road. Scout or portage left. A long rocky class 2 rapids occurs 1.5 miles below Summit Creek bridge. This is followed by some big boulders and two headwalls with a deceptively vicious eddy on the right of the second wall. The lower 5 miles are relatively easier. Character: forested."
