o.k. this might just be the mt. everest of southern oregon. there is a $5. fee at the trail head, it was so dark when i started i did not see it, got a pay it ticket, payed it there, i am 59 years old and this is not just a hike , this hike will get in your head. looking up at a 45 degree angle, then hiking for an hour and the view is the same, like a salad, you just keep eating away at it, and it keeps getting bigger. to make a long story short, leave the trail head early, by 8am take your time, i was going it along, i did see other people on the trail, when i got to about 7800 feet the wind picked up from 30 to 50 mph, not snowing, but was as good a white out as you could get, in the clouds. waited 30 min. and said live to hike another day, did here the next day people did get lost on the mountain and search and rescue was called out. take extra water if it is hot and drop it off on the way up for on the way back down. going back up next weekend if the snow has not come. after hiking this, you will have a different outlook on other hikes, we have been doing 8-10 milers, after this one hiking a dirt trail is easy, starting to look at 10-14 milers.
