Blue Basin Overlook Trail Professional Review and Guide
"A short, loop day hike in Fossil Beds National Monument. However, hikers must stay on the trail. This is one of those trails where you’ll probably find yourself stopping a lot to view your magnificent surroundings. Although you can hike the trail in less than two hours, you may want to allow more time for just sitting and looking. Begin hiking the Blue Basin Overlook Trail by going left and climbing the easy then moderate grade, up a drainage that narrows as you climb. Watch for coyotes, chukars, and badgers along the way. Be sure to keep looking back to the west as the views are tremendous. Special attractions: Great views of Blue Basin and areas surrounding John Day Fossil Beds National Monument."
