This run, although short, contains some great rapids set in an intimate gorge. The run is usually done as an addition to a run down the West Fork Hood River for boaters wanting a little more kick than the rapids on the West Fork. After the small boulder gardens, at the beginning of the run, the river drops over a ledge and rips through a narrow slot, Helmet Peeler. Scout on the right. Just downstream is Boat Beater, which has an exciting boof on the right or narrow slide on the left. Next is another fun drop, Left or Right. Scout this one carefully as wood tends to accumulate in the narrow channels and underneath the surface. This rapid would be very difficult to portage. Left or Right is followed by several more fun rapids before the West Fork. Take out on the right or continue down the West Fork. Character: gorge.
