Blue Mountain Scenic Byway Professional Review and Guide
"A 130-mile paved route from the arid Columbia River grasslands up into the forested Blue Mountains. The Blue Mountain Scenic Byway traverses a variety of terrain during its journey across northeast Oregon. When extended to include nearby Elkhorn Drive, the route nearly parallels Interstate 84, but it provides a more scenic, less hectic alternative for travelers.
The two-lane road is paved and has frequent turnouts. Traffic is usually light, except during hunting season from October 1 through Thanksgiving. Special attractions: Elk herds, North Fork John Day Wilderness, historic sites, forest views, Wild and Scenic North Fork John Day River. This eTrail is a complete description of a scenic drive with a route map and information on the best travel seasons, interesting sites, recreation opportunities, camping locations, and much more."
