This ride is nicknamed "Cow Poop Loop." Much of the route follows dusty, hoof-worn cow paths through woods and grassy meadows. Technically, rocky ups and downs will have all but superheroes dabbing. The trip begins with three miles of gravel roads. A quick descent leads into an easy to moderately difficult climb on Forest Service Road 66, the road is in good condition. Climb up to the tower of Russel Mountain Lookout for a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside. To the north are snow-capped peaks in the Eagle Cap Wilderness. To the east are Hells Canyon and the distant Seven Devils. The ride begins near Fish Lake, approximately 20 miles north of Halfway.(Halfway is a remote community in northeastern Oregon. It is east of Baker City, near the Snake River and the Wallowa Mountains).
