Oxbow Regional Park

Oxbow Regional Park Professional Review and Guide

"Oxbow Regional Park is hands-down one of the greatest parks in the Portland area. It’s got ancient forests, mountain biking trails, natural history programs, and—best of all—the looping, flooding, wild Sandy River.

If the Sandy didn’t have to compete with so many other great rivers around here, it would unquestionably be world famous. Oxbow Park is also surprisingly easy to reach by bike; it’s just not so easy to leave. Yes, the park does have a lot to offer, and yes, it does make for a great overnight bike destination. The hill you have to climb on your way out is not the longest or steepest in this book, but on an otherwise easy ride, it comes as a shock. Pack a good picnic and dawdle as long as possible at the river before tackling the uphill. Or, if you must, skip the park and river altogether. It’s still a great tour through some fine East County scenery—and at 18 miles and approximately 700 feet of climbing (minus the park, that is) it should be doable for just about any rider."
