Here’s a good challenge for those who want to take their snowshoes into the alpine zone of Mount Hood, Oregon’s highest peak. Although going farther up toward the summit of Mount Hood would require technical climbing equipment and know-how, this trip gets you well above the clouds and offers a view unlike few others in the state. On a spring day when clouds and fog blanket the city of Portland, hikers at Crater Rock are often basking in sunshine. Make no mistake, however; this is a strenuous trip with significant elevation gain.
