The lower Clackamas River is an excellent place to begin whitewater boating. The river is wide at normal flows, quite scenic, and uncluttered despite its popularity. Though people flock to the parks along the river to cool off and play in the water in summer, on the river one can still find a fair amount of solitude. In the section known as High Rocks, just a couple of miles upstream of Clackamette Park, swimmers often jump from cliffs to the deep, narrow river channel below. In places homes are visible along the banks, particularly in the last several miles. Respect the rights of property owners here, since they see a fair amount of river traffic.
