Bear Camp Prairie Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"A short, mostly easy and pleasant hike through coastal forest and a large prairie, beginning at the summit of Bear Camp Road. There’s parking for 6 cars across the highway from the trailhead. The Bear Camp picnic site and vista point, with vault toilets, is 0.5 mile down the road. Be careful, though; the picnic site is sometimes overrun with immense blackflies.
Bear Camp summit is a popular and highly scenic spot on the 37-mile Bear Camp Road from Galice to Agness. It’s even nicer since they built the trail. The short hike up to the prairie and back is a well spent 45 minutes. From the trailhead the path crosses a little flat, then winds rather sharply uphill for some distance. The forest is typical middle to high elevation, with Douglas-fir, noble fir (or possibly Shasta red fir), grand fir, and a few western hemlocks."
