This trip is one of Oregon’s classics, the kind that’s good to pull out of your braggart’s hat at a cocktail party. It’s a real commitment of time (allow 3 to 4 days), effort, and backcountry know-how. Crater Lake is as beautiful as it is bizarre; it was formed from the remnants of a massive volcano with waters so pure and still that on a windless winter day you might think you could walk across. It may be Oregon’s only national park, but it’s a doozy. Bring a camera loaded with film, because every new lake vista demands that you blow a few more frames.

Did this trip in snowshoes, was blessed with sunny clear weather. Absolutley beautiful, a great trip and would definatley do again and recommend to others. Though I would recommend if you plan to do on snowshoes give yourself 4 days, it is doable in 3 like we did. But you will have more time to enjoy. We got lucky with snow conditions, if there was fresh snow than it would have been harder to finish in the allotted time.

Great snowshoeing, amazing views. The trail was easy to follow as there were plenty of ski tracks. I want to thank Trails.com for the ability to download a customizable map and the great lat/long coordinates that show up with the map pointer. It made for an easy GPS setup which made it nearly impossible to get lost.
