Henry Hagg Lake Trail Professional Review and Guide
"This is a popular hiking trail, so watch for traffic on the road portions of the loop. Expect to pay an entrance fee. Highlights: Fun trail, deep forest, and views of the lake. Tread: 12.4 miles singletrack; 2.1 miles pavement. Hazards: Avoid riding this trail when the ground is wet; the wooden bridges become very slick."
--Scott Rapp, Mountain Biking Portland (Falcon Guides).
It was muddy! not a bad thing. except when you want to keep your speed on a downhill. I imagine that when the weather isnt so wet it will be a really solid trail. My father and I have to ride the last couple miles on the rode because our bikes were not happy with the mud that had caked on them. But it was a lot of fun. Something for everyone. I will say that its rated correctly at intermediate.
It was a fun ride, but way too much poison oak. Be prepared for weeks of suffering afterwards unless you are immune to poison oak.
This trail is a blast with lots of twists and turns and ups and downs. The trail is a bit rough and rutted in spots which can make it a little tricky. I was amazed at how few people I encountered for a spot so close to Portland, but I did go in the fall. Definitely a "must do" for those in Oregon or passing through.
This is one for the books. I was amazed at how many times I was suprised on this trail. It is very fast. You will be coming down a hill to a turn and boom there is a steep little climb going back up. It was sweet. Broke my chain twice on this ride. There is even a log you can ride over a creek bed if you have the Kahonies. Cheers
