Waxmyrtle Trail

Waxmyrtle Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Follow a woodsy trail above the Siltcoos River to a quiet stretch of beach near the river's mouth. The trees provide a natural blind behind which to observe the bird life in the estuary.

The second half of the trail used to run along the edge of the estuary; it has been rerouted away from the river's edge and now requires a tedious slog on a soft sand road to reach the beach."

"Follow a woodsy trail above the Siltcoos River to a quiet stretch of beach near the river’s mouth. The trees provide a natural blind behind which to observe the bird life in the estuary. A large marsh near the trail’s end is closed to hikers mid-March through mid-September to protect any snowy plovers that may be nesting there, but an alternative trail to the south still gets you to the beach year-round. Dogs are allowed on the beach trail but restricted in the estuary." Read more
