Taylor and Carter Dunes

Taylor and Carter Dunes Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The Taylor and Carter Dunes Trails begin in the forest but mostly traverse open sand dunes; hikers find their way by walking from trail post to post.

Not many people use these trails, making the stretch of beach they lead to one of the quietest on this part of the coast."

"This is a short, easy hike through the woods and past a small lake to the beginning of a longer and much more difficult trail through the dunes. Hikers arrive at Taylor Lake after 0.1 mile, at a little wooden footbridge across the outlet creek. This is an excellent wildlife observation area with mallard ducks, Canada geese, bald eagles, osprey, and more. The lake covers about an acre and is very marshy and surrounded by lush vegetation." An easy hike into a clean, flat stretch of beach, with about half the trail in dirt and half in sand. Not as spectacular as the John Dellenback trek across the dunes, but much easier. Beach is open at the end of the trail, but has restrictions a short distance both north and south from March 15 to September 15 to protect Snowy Plover nesting habitat.
