Florence, OR Professional Review and Guide
"One story says the city of Florence was named after State Senator A. B. Florence, who represented Lane County in the mid-nineteenth century. A more romantic and interesting version, and one more fitting the character of a charming seaport, is that the French ship Florence went aground near the mouth of the Siuslaw River in February 1875 and broke up in the surf.
After years of neglect and decay, much of Old Town has been renovated and is now the most interesting part of the city. With all its shops and waterfront restaurants, Bay Street is doing its best to bustle, but it can’t quite resist the urge to amble. This eTrail includes information on lodging, campgrounds, RV parks, restaurants, entertainment, shopping, and outdoor activities near this coastal city."
