Secret Campground Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Who doesn’t love stumbling upon a secret campground, and—better yet—discovering that it is as wonderful as that sounds? Well, some secrets are best when shared. This seems doubly true when the name of the secret campground is the Secret Campground. Here’s the thing: sometimes nature decides to foil the best-laid plans. The previous edition of this book included a convincingly rapturous description of nearby Timpanogas Campground, which is undoubtedly still an exceptional place to camp—but sadly, wildfire activity made it impossible to reach when we tried to visit for this update. The access road we chose was blocked, and a thick haze of smoke left over from recent fires hung in the air. It happens.
Luckily, the campground itself wasn’t affected (Eagle Creek Campground in the Columbia River Gorge was not so lucky—we’ve left it out of this edition, hoping for news that it will soon be rehabilitated), and the odds are good that by the time you read this, Timpanogas will be back on the “yes, definitely visit” list. But in the meantime, at least there’s a good alternative nearby."
