Olallie Lake Scenic Area Loop

Olallie Lake Scenic Area Loop Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The Olallie Lake Scenic Area is a gentle subalpine landscape full of lakes, meadows, and joyous campsites that is an ideal destination for families with children. Every lake is attractive, provides good fishing, and is a fun place for kids to splash in the water, swim, and explore. In July, the wildflowers are outstanding, but the mosquitoes will drive you to distraction, so plan to visit in either late August, when the huckleberries are ripe and the water temperature is more comfortable for swimming, or mid-October for solitude and superb fall color."

"The gentle subalpine landscape of the Olallie Lake Scenic Area is well suited to families, because the area’s many lakes and ponds have numerous joyous campsites that provide easy destinations where the kids can go fishing and swimming. Millions of wildflowers bloom in July, but this is also when mosquitoes are most abundant. Although day hikers can outrun the little vampires and retreat before the evening bug rush commences, backpackers should wait for better conditions later in the year. Late August is an excellent choice, with relatively comfortable water temperatures for swimming and acres of ripe huckleberries. Another excellent season is mid-October, when the huckleberry leaves turn orange and red, the bugs are gone, and, other than a few hunters, the trails are deserted." Read more

This was a fabulous trail. The scenery was awesome and the Twin Lakes were beautiful. Fishing was ok.... smallish Brook Trout. The trail itself has a lot of elevation changes which in my mind made it more difficult that the guide suggests. Of course I hiked it with barely broken in boots, so that may have something to do with my opinion.

Don't plan on doing this hike unless you bring a chainsaw. There is a downed tree blocking the road about 4 miles from the trial head. You can enter twin lakes from other trail heads so if your heart is set on twin lakes look into another hike.
