Nohorn Creek: Nohorn Creek to Peg Leg Falls Professional Review and Guide
"Nohorn Creek is a small tributary of the Hot Springs Fork of the Collawash River that contains fun class 3 rapids, one great class 4 rapid, and one big class 5 drop. The scenery on this intimate creek is superb throughout the run. Immediately below the put-in, boaters encounter a sharp ledge drop with a small pool below. Just downstream, boaters enter a small gorge with several fun class 3 rapids separated by small pools. The first drop in the gorge can be scouted only from a small eddy on the right. After the gorge, the creek opens up and contains numerous fun class 3 rapids. There will probably be some wood to avoid, so look downstream before committing to a drop.
About halfway through the run, the river curves right and enters Cookie Monster, class 5. Cookie Monster is a long, steep slide into a riverwide hole. Portage/scout from a one-boat eddy on the right before the creek makes the turn. Below Cookie Monster, be on the lookout for a steep ledge drop in a steep walled section of the creek. At most flows, this class 4 drop can be scouted from a small gravel bar on the right or can be portaged with difficulty on the left. The ledge visible from the bridge near the take-out should be run in the center as both the left and the right land on rocks. Peg Leg Falls can be run as a finale. Character: forested."
