Collawash River: Bridge 5.5 Miles from Mouth to Two Rivers Picnic Area Professional Review and Guide
"Enjoyable class 3 rapids and numerous play spots characterize most of this run, except for two difficult class 4 to 5 rapids. Both of these rapids are in the upper 2-mile section and can be avoided by using the lower put-in. From the bridge at the upper put-in, it is only about 0.25 mile to the first major rapid, Boulderdash, class 4, a 0.3-mile-long boulder garden complete with house rocks, narrow chutes, and a serious gradient. Scout the entire rapid from the roadside pullout 5.2 miles above the take-out.
This involves some scrambling and peering through trees but is well worth the effort. From the river, scout Boulderdash from either bank. Most of the runnable slots are river left, with the exit near the center. After 1.5 miles of class 2 rapids, the second class 4 rapid, Chute to Kill, is identified by the cliff on river right. Again, scout Chute to Kill on the way to the put-in from a roadside pullout 3.6 miles above the take-out. The run begins as a steep boulder garden followed by a large hole backed by a guard rock. A solid brace makes life more enjoyable here. A short pool leads into the last drop, a 5-foot plunge down a steep chute into a powerful hole on river left. A right side chute dead-ends in a boulder jam, hence the name. Character: wooded canyon."
