Nestled in a deep, mostly forested bowl, Big Slide Lake is a wonderfully scenic destination in the generally overlooked Bull of the Woods Wilderness. The approach trail is attractive throughout, with plenty of old-growth forests, a clear stream, some good viewpoints, and a pretty little marshy meadow where wildlife is common. But it’s the destination that will really enchant you. With its reflections of nearby peaks, small island, fine swimming, and good fishing, this place has everything a backpacker could want from a mountain lake.
